Next Generation Sailing: “It is slowly becoming apparent that the 3-month wait is paying off - the wait was hard. Now we have to keep our fingers crossed that there are no unexpected changes.”

The Task Engineering crew will travel to Esbjerg today and prepare for the start of the world record attempt.

The conditions for this Code Orange are unique; therefore, there are three options for the next 48 hours:

  1. Start on Tuesday, 04.02.2025 during the afternoon

  2. Start on Wednesday, 05.02.2025 early in the morning

  3. No start, as the weather conditions change

The route is very demanding and differs greatly from the co-skippers typical Atlantic crossing. It demands some difficult manoeuvres from Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink, who have mentally prepared themselves accordingly. The journey takes them around Skagen and Bornholm, past Funen to Aarhus Lystbadehavn. On the Garmin Round Denmark Race: Time Trial course of 760 nautical miles, the aim is to beat the time of 70 hours, 24 minutes and 21 seconds set in 2019 by Bouwe Bekking and his crew on the VO Childhood II.

The Class 40, named Task Engineering, has already been intensively prepared for departure, cleaned and carefully checked. There have been numerous briefings, and Simon Koster has supported the team with the weather routings. Simon is currently in Les Sables D'Olonne as part of Team Hublot, supporting Alan Roura for his Vendeé Globe arrival. As the Vendeé Globe draws to a close, Next Generation Sailing is aptly starting their own offshore sailing adventure.

On-board reporter Emilia Vaes will keep you up to date with what's happening on the Task Engineering and take you along on the journey. To not miss out, you will get access to the YB Tracker when we declare Code Green.

It will be bitterly cold on board. But thanks to sponsor Helly Hansen, the crew is well kitted out.

After switching to Code Orange this morning, Team Next Generation Sailing, together with its partner Garmin Round Denmark Race, has had a lot to organise with the Aarhus Sailing Center. Support boats are needed in Esbjerg to escort the team to the start. A similar procedure will follow in Aarhus where more boats will greet the Task Engineering as they cross the finish line.

In great collaboration with the Garmin Round Denmark Race and the Aarhus International Sailing Center we have exciting plans for the arrival, which will be revealed soon. The arrival will most likely be on Saturday, February 8, 2025. We welcome everyone who has the time and inclination to be there in Aarhus and we look forward to welcoming numerous spectators and friends.

Estimated arrival after the start: Saturday 08.02.2025 Next update before midnight! Come to Aarhus and celebrate the return and the world record round Denmark with Next Generation Sailing! Do not forget to wrap up warm and look forward to a great event in the far north! We will keep you up to date!
