Next Generation Sailing: "We are on standby for the right weather, perfectly prepared, and ready to go at any time!"
The crew of Task Engineering, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink, is on standby for the world record attempt around Denmark, in collaboration with the Garmin Round Denmark Race – The Time Trial and the Aarhus International Sailing Center.
Next Generation Sailing aims to beat the time of 70 hours, 24 minutes, and 21 seconds. This record was set by Bouwe Bekking in 2020 on the VO65 Childhood II.
Lennart and Melwin, co-skippers of the Class40, aim to break the existing Garmin Round Denmark Race – The Time Trial record from Esbjerg around Skagen, around Bornholm, past Funen to Aarhus. The distance of 760 nautical miles is extremely challenging, and so far, there is no official world record that has been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. To achieve an official result, the exciting event will be monitored by the World Sailing Speed Record Council and the Aarhus International Sailing Center.
The Round Denmark record attempt and Class40 campaign are made possible by the Danish-German sponsor, Task Engineering. The Danish-German company offers solutions for offshore development and services. As an engineering hub in the Baltic Sea, Task Engineering aims to promote renewable energy and emphasizes the transition away from fossil fuels by raising awareness through sponsorship of the Next Generation Sailing Team and this daring expedition around Denmark.
To share this journey and bring everyone on board, there will be live reports from the boat. Interviews and extraordinary impressions will be provided by on-board reporter Emilia Vaes, who has seen it all, sharing insights from this adventure. Be sure to follow Next Generation Sailing, Aarhus International Sailing Center, and Garmin Round Denmark Race on social media for updates!
When Lennart and Melwin arrive in Aarhus Lystbadehavn, you’ll have the chance to welcome them back, where a great event awaits!
Lennart and Melwin have already completed three training sessions to assess the route and optimize the boat. The Class40 Task Engineering is now moored in the marina in Esbjerg, eagerly awaiting the start. The start will be decided within three days as soon as the right weather window appears. Therefore, the boat and crew must be ready at all times.
So stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed for Next Generation Sailing!
