Dutch sailor Peter van der Schaaf is setting sail for an exciting challenge in the Garmin Round Denmark Race, one of the most demanding inshore races in Northern Europe. Aboard his Stern 33 “Tack Sails – Jager”, he will compete with a full crew of 8 total, blending experience with youthful enthusiasm for a true test of skill, endurance, and teamwork.

A Boat with History
Peter has owned Tack Sails – Jager since it was built in 2004. Though once considered a modern hull shape, the boat has become somewhat outdated by today’s standards—yet it remains a formidable competitor on the water. Reflecting on his long history with the boat, Peter shares:
“The boat is a one-off from 2004, I have been the owner since then. In the early years, it was quite a modern hull shape; nowadays, it’s outdated but still not a slow boat. We will compete with a mixture of very experienced sailors and some younger ones who are eager to learn.”
A Crew Ready for Adventure
The crew of Tack Sails – Jager brings together a dynamic mix of seasoned sailors and ambitious newcomers. With a strong background in racing across the Netherlands, this team is no stranger to high-level competition. However, the Garmin Round Denmark Race presents an exciting opportunity to step outside their familiar waters and take on an international challenge.
“Almost all kinds of races we did in the past in the Netherlands, so going abroad now and then is a kind of holiday with some serious sailing and hopefully fun. We are looking forward to this race.”

The Challenge Ahead
The Garmin Round Denmark Race is a true test of seamanship, strategy, and endurance. The course, which spans the dramatic coastline of Denmark, includes complex navigation, shifting weather conditions, and long hours at sea. For Peter and his crew, this race is both a challenge and a chance to experience new waters while putting their teamwork and skills to the test.
As the countdown to the race begins, we wish Peter van der Schaaf and the Tack Sails – Jager crew fair winds and an unforgettable adventure!
