Writer: Søren Ilsø MahnekeSøren Ilsø Mahneke

For the second year in a row, Lars and Jon Kaempfe, our favourite GRDR-father and son duo, are setting sail in the Garmin Round Denmark Race aboard their trimaran, Tri. This german father-son duo made their debut in 2024, and despite facing challenges—including a broken sail—they are eager to take on the adventure once again in 2025.

“We are taking part in the GRDR 2025 as it is a great event and offers the opportunity to sail through ‘almost’ all Danish waters with their unique beauty and challenges as a ‘father and son project’ within a few days,” they share.

Their first experience in the race was filled with highs and lows. From the thrill of racing through ever-changing conditions to the setback of a damaged sail, Lars and Jon faced it all together. But for them, the GRDR is about more than just competition—it’s about quality time, shared experiences, and strengthening their bond as father and son.

In our exclusive video interview, they open up about their experiences from last year’s race, how they handled the unexpected breakage, and why they believe this event is truly special. They also discuss the unique dynamics of sailing as a team and what it means to take on this challenge side by side.

Stay tuned for more updates and stories from the race as we get closer to the big event!
