Today marks the starting signal for this year’s Garmin Round Denmark Race.Eighteen crews, divided into single-handed, double-handed, and fully crewed classes, are setting out on an epic 680-nautical-mile adventure around Denmark, with both the start and finish in Aarhus. The Journey Begins

Starting in Aarhus, the 18 skippers and their crews will sail up to Skagen, down through Kattegat, through Øresund, around Bornholm, up through the Little Belt, and back to Aarhus. The sailors will face everything from open seas and strong westerly winds to current-filled passages and tactical decision-making in coastal waters. Weather will play a decisive role, and the ability to plan, stay calm, and sail efficiently around the clock will be put to the test.

“For us – and hopefully also for the sailors – this race is the perfect combination of challenging sailing and adventure. The sailors will be tested on tactics and strategy, but they will also have front-row seats to the beautiful Danish coastline. We think everyone should get to experience that,” says Søren Ilsø Mahneke, Event Manager at Aarhus International Sailing Center.

The single-handed start took place today, Friday, at 09:00, and the double-handed and fully crewed classes will set off later today at 17:00.

Prizes will be awarded for Line of Honor in the single-handed, double-handed, full-crew, multihull, and “Fighter of the Year” categories. In addition to the official prizes, all sailors who finish will receive a “finisher” award, which this year – without giving too much away – will be something very welcome at the end of the race.

5-Year Anniversary

In 2025, the Garmin Round Denmark Race also marks the 5th anniversary of Garmin’s entry as the race’s main partner.

“We are incredibly happy and proud of our partnership with Garmin, which has become a close partner here at the center. They have helped us raise and develop the GRDR year after year, and we look forward to continuing to host Northern Europe’s toughest race with them,” says Søren.

Garmin, who is present in Aarhus for the start, also sees great value in the collaboration with the Aarhus International Sailing Center for the race around Denmark.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Garmin Round Denmark Race together with the Aarhus International Sailing Center. From the start, it has been a strong and professional partnership, and each year we see how the participating sailors come together for this unique challenge, creating a special community before, during, and after the race. Aarhus is the perfect starting point for a race of this caliber – and we look forward to yet another spectacular journey around Denmark,” says Christine Jæger, Consumer Marketing Manager at Garmin.

Each year, Garmin contributes prizes for the sailors, and this year the total prize pool amounts to DKK 25,000.
