The winners of the three Garmin Round Denmark Race 2023 Wild Cards are very different but still they share the passion for sailing, adventure and a tough challenge for life.
Spækhugger sailor Mia Krogh Andersen Kavanagh from Aarhus was overly happy when she got the news.
I have never won anything in a draw like this. I'm so happy. I'm going to find a crew and a boat but rest assured I'll be there when we get to August.
The second winner is adventurer and pro sailor Chris Lobel. Chris runs his own company Saga Adventure Sailing a business that operates in the Ocean adventure Sailing & Offshore sail training trips. The RYA Yachtmaster and Instructor didn't realize at first that he had won.
No, I'm not interested in buying anything, he said when Garmin Round Denmark Race called him up but after some explaining his mood changed.
I'm on Madeira right on the way back to Denmark. I really hope to be able to make it to the starting line, he said. Chris Lobel sails a Swan 47 named Saga.
Finally we have the third winner Gry Klok Thomsen. So far her claim to fame was her debut as singlehanded sailor when she finished Silverrudder Challenge 2021 after only 88 days of singlehanded training. She normally sails her Farr 727 Ikigay alone but for Garmin Round Denmark Race 2023 she's still undecided.
I don't know yet. Doing the 130 NM round Funen is one thing. 650 NM alone with true offshore, Rest Time Rules and more is something totally, she points out.
Hence Gry Klok Thomsen is still considering if she'll go singlehanded or doublehanded when the start goes from Aarhus on Saturday August 5th.
