Fastest solo sailor round Denmark is in fact Swedish

At 1500 Tuesday June 21 2022 Rikard Roth crossed the finishing line in Garmin Round Denmark Race offshore singlehand after almost exactly 6 days or 144 hours of racing. After winning the battle of leg 1 over fellow Swedish sailor Anders Nyberg and German sailor Dirk Eggers with a few minutes Rikard Roth extended the lead leg for leg.

The tactical component is a big win for the race

The decisive moment was when the wind died Monday June 20 but the Xp44 sailor managed to keep cool and was able to be the first to dock out on what became the final leg from Gedser to Aarhus.

– This kind of racing has a lot more tactics than you think when you look at it from the outside. Earlier it used to be a race of 5 or 6 stages. Each stage was a race in it self. Now with the rest-time rule the race has a much bigger tactical component which I like a lot, Rikard Roth said on the pier right after mooring the boat outside the International Sailing Center of Aarhus.
