Haspa Hamburg and the GRDR Inshore Record

Haspa Hamburg is now alone at the front of the Garmin Round Denmark Race fleet and is expected to return to Aarhus during the night, provided everything goes according to plan. The team is currently on course to potentially set a new record on the GRDR Inshore Route.

The existing record of 91 hours, 13 minutes and 19 seconds is held by Michael Møllmann and Hansen Sailing Team.

Hansen Sailing Team and Palby Marine unfortunately had to retire during the night following a serious rig failure. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The team shared the following message:

“At 00:30 our starboard V1 broke and with that the mast broke above the second spreader. Luckily no one was injured and after securing all parts, we are now safe in Gedser lying next to TRI. It has been a pleasure to participate in GRDR26. Our journey ends here. Best of luck to all remaining contenders!”

Epoxi, sailed by the father-and-son duo Tom and Ole, also had to retire from the race today.

All crews have faced challenging weather conditions throughout the day, with strong winds testing both sailors and boats around the course.

XAR and Wuchtbrumme are currently alongside each other in Nexø, where Lars and Rikard have agreed on a plan to wait for the conditions to improve:

“This morning I, Lars, met Rikard from XAR in Nexø. After checking the weather, we are planning a small intermediate start from Nexø tomorrow at 10:00, when the wind has calmed down.”

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Haspa Hamburg as they approach the final stretch towards Aarhus.
