Garmin Round Denmark Race: Invitation for 2 adventures

There are several major news in the first two official documents, “Invitation” and “Event Regulations”. With them at hand, potential 2022 participants can familiarize themselves with the DNA of the event, as well as the requirements for participants and their boats.

But not everything is new. The epicenter of the Garmin Round Denmark Race will also in 2022 be Aarhus International Sailing Center which forms the perfect setting for an event of this caliber. And similar to 2021, there will be starts and finishing right next to the International Sailing Center for Garmin Round Denmark Race inshore. In 2022, there will be a further increase in on shore activities to involve the spectators and citizens of Aarhus.

– It was exciting to be part of the first Garmin Round Denmark Race this year, and we look forward to participating again in 2022. We have learnt a lot and now we hope for a summer where we get out of the iron grip of the corona. We do for sure look forward to being part of the event in Aarhus at the port and around the Danish waters, says Communication Manager, Christine Jæger from Garmin Denmark.

The big news

The overriding news, of course, is that in 2022, the event will add another course. This happens when the “Garmin Round Denmark offshore” takes place for the first time ever and with the city of Esbjerg as the starting venue. This gives the event a setup that is known from legendary races such as Fastnet Race and Sidney Hobart.

The course to be sailed is the same as the one the offshore world star Bouwe Bekking with a team of professionals and celebrities sailed in the summer of 2019. Here they put in a hard "The Time to Beat" in the VO65er Childhood II in just over three days for the 760 nautical miles .

This course will take participants past Denmark's "four corners of the world" reaching the westernmost, northernmost, easternmost and southernmost point.

- It will be fantastic to activate the North Sea's huge potential as a "racing track" for fleet racing in a Danish context. Kite- and windsurfers have for long used the areas on the west coast. Now we believe that the mono- and multi-hull boats must have an opportunity to try racing on this great sea, says Morten Brandt from Shorthand ECM.

New price structure

Another novelty is the price structure. Here, an Early Bird registration will trigger a 30% discount compared to the standard price. In addition, there will be a 50% discount from participant number six in the discipline "fully crewed". This means that if you are a crew of 10, then the 5 come with half price. There will thus be a significant reduction in the price of participation in the Fully Crewed discipline compared to 2021.

- We have taken the feedback we received from this year's participants seriously, and therefore the price structure is among the things we have addressed. We have looked out into the world, at the events we measure ourselves with. We want to reward the crews who sign up early and we hope and believe that with the new price structure we will appeal to many coming participants, says Jon Koch Hansen from Sailing Aarhus
