Entry #8: Tom Has Unfinished Business to do in the GRDR

Tom C. Schwartzkopff has signed up for the Garmin Round Denmark Race 2026, returning with clear ambitions and a personal motivation that reaches beyond the finish line. After experiencing the race solo in 2025, which he unfortunately had to abandon, he is now ready

to take on the around Denmark course Double Handed—together with his son, Ole.

“I really like to take part in the GRDR26. My goal is not only to finish the race this time, but also to do it together with my son Ole,” says Schwartzkopff.

Sailing his X-332, Epoxi, Schwartzkopff brings first-hand knowledge of the challenges that define one of Northern Europe’s most demanding inshore races. During his previous attempt, technical issues forced him to retire early at Anholt. Still, the experience left a strong impression, from stable weather to the camaraderie among sailors in Aarhus and a fast, rewarding passage through the Kattegat.

For GRDR26, the focus is on teamwork, preparation, and seeing the full course through—side by side. Double Handed sailing adds another layer to the inshore challenge, combining endurance, coordination, and shared decision-making across Denmark’s varied coastal waters.

The Garmin Round Denmark Race 2026 remains a major highlight of the Nordic sailing scene, drawing committed sailors who value seamanship, strategy, and the collective spirit of the fleet.
